Visiting Turkey – Tourist Visa Application

Learn the Requirements for Applying for a Turkish Tourist Visa

Turkey is a wonderful country to travel to because you will be able to witness various cultures that the Anatolian Peninsula and the European part of Turkey has hosted in the past thousands of years. You will be able to see both modern Turkey and relics of the old Ottoman Empire.

If you’re visiting Turkey for the first time, you should be aware of certain regulations that the Turkish Government requires from tourists.

Visiting Turkey - Turkey Tourist Visa Guide

The first thing that you have to be careful about is whether your country has a visa requirement and how long you can stay in Turkey as a tourist. Each country has a different length of stay and visa requirements. The Turkish Government requires that all foreigners have a Tourist Visa.

In order to apply for a Tourist Visa, you need:

  • Bio-metric photograph
  • Passport or similar identification card
  • Documents providing proof of income or savings
  • Flight reservation
  • Hotel reservation or invitation
  • Document supporting the return to the home country (approval from work, etc.)
  • Travel insurance

While you can obtain a Tourist Visa on arrival at the airport, you can also get an electronic visa online, by doing an application from a website. I would suggest that you apply for an e-visa because it will save you a lot of time and you can apply for it from your home. Otherwise you will spend more time at the Customs entry.

EDIT: Just received word from readers that the only option available is now e-Visa. You can’t apply for a visa at the airport anymore.

The website on applying for a Turkish E-Visa is www.evisa.gov.tr . Please remember that you will have to pay an additional 1-2$ transaction fee apart from your e-Visa application fee. Don’t do your application in another other place, use the official website or you will pay a lot of money. Furthermore, the application fee will be even higher if you want to get your Turkish e-Visa from another website.

I have made a list showing which countries are eligible for e-Visa, whether they can obtain a multiple-entry e-Visa, their fees and maximum length of stay as a PDF download. Please register for a Basic (free) account to see the file below and download it:

Applicants obtain their visas electronically after entering required information and making payments by a credit or debit card (Mastercard, Visa or UnionPay).

The link to download your e-Visa is given on the final step where you will be informed that your application has been completed successfully. As in the case of other visas, respective Turkish officials at the ports of entry reserves the right to deny entry into Turkey to a holder of an e-Visa without any explanation.
