In this Turkish vocabulary lesson, we will learn 50 Important Turkish Verbs.

50 Must-Know Turkish Verbs
Follow the pronunciation of these words by watching the video. Listen closely to the sentence examples too.
Yapmak To do, to make | Annem bana kek yaptı. My mom made me a cake. |
Gitmek To go | Her gün yürüyerek okula gidiyorum. Every day I go to school walking. |
Gelmek To come | Dün akşam teyzem evimize geldi. Last evening my aunt came to our house. |
Olmak To be | Büyüyünce doktor olacağım. I’m going to be a doctor when I grow up. |
Almak To buy, to receive | Ahmet arkadaşından hediye aldı. Ahmet received a present from his friend. |
Vermek To give | Dilenciye 10 lira verdi. He gave the beggar 10 liras. |
Sevmek To love | Yavru pandaları çok severim. I really love baby pandas. |
Uyanmak To wake up | Selin her sabah saat 8’de uyanır. Selin wakes up every morning at 8 o’clock. |
Uyumak To sleep | Cenk derste hep uyur. Cenk always sleeps in class. |
Yemek To eat | Öğle yemeğinde hamburger yedim. I ate hamburger at lunch. |
İçmek To drink | İçecek ne içersiniz? What drink would you like to drink? |
Satın Almak To purchase | Mağazadan kendime bir elbise satın aldım. I bought a dress from the shop. |
Satmak To sell | Öğrencilere ders notlarını sattı. She sold her class notes to students. |
Aramak To search | İnternet’te ne arıyorsun? What are you searching for on the internet? |
Bulmak To find | Aradığını buldun mu? Did you find what you were looking for? |
Duymak To hear | Dışarıda kuşların ötüşlerini duydum. I heard the birds chirping outside. |
Konuşmak To speak | Çok iyi Türkçe konuşuyorsun! You speak really good Turkish! |
Demek To say | Ceylan “bana kalemini versene” dedi. “Give me your pen” said Ceylan. |
Söylemek To tell | Ceylan ona kalemini vermesini söyledi. Ceylan told him to give his pen to her. |
Anlatmak To tell, to narrate | Babam bana bir hikaye anlattı. My father told me a story. |
Susmak To be quiet | Lütfen susar mısın? Could you please be quiet? |
Görmek To see | Eve dönerken bir tavşan gördüm. I saw a rabbit while returning home. |
İzlemek To watch | Ablam televizyon izliyor. My sister is watching television. |
Bakmak To look | Genç adam güzel bayana baktı. The young man looked at the pretty woman. |
Okumak To read | Yatakta uzanmış kitap okuyor. She’s reading a book while lying on the bed. |
Çizmek To draw | Küçük kız çok güzel resim çiziyor. The little girl is drawing a really pretty picture. |
Yazmak To write | Öğretmen tahtaya soru yazıyor. The teacher is writing a question on the board. |
Kullanmak To use | Adam kılıcı ustaca kullandı. The man skillfully used the sword. |
İstemek To want | Ne yemek istiyorsun? What do you want to eat? |
Dilemek To wish | Kayan yıldızı görünce dilek dilemeye başladı. Seeing the shooting star, he started wishing. |
Koymak To put | Çayı oraya koyma. Don’t put the tea there. |
Hatırlamak To remember | Dün akşam gördüğün rüyanı hatırlıyor musun? Do you remember your dream from last night? |
Unutmak To forget | Bu günü hiç unutmayacağım. I’m never going to forget this day. |
Tutmak To hold | Atlamadan önce elimi sıkıca tut. Tightly hold my hand before we jump. |
Bırakmak To release | Çocuk annesinin elini bırakıp koştu. The child released his mother’s hand and ran. |
Başlamak To start | Sınava saat 9’da başladı. The exam started at 9 o’clock. |
Bitirmek To finish | Yaşlı adam sonunda maratonu bitirdi. The old man finally finished the marathon. |
Denemek To try | Bebek ilk kez yürümeyi denedi. The baby tried to walk for the first time. |
Bulmak To find | Aradığı aşkı buldu. He found the love he was looking for. |
Kaybetmek To lose | Müzik festivalinde arkadaşımı kaybettim. I lost my friend at the music festival. |
Dinlenmek To rest | Çok yoruldum, biraz dinlenelim. I’m really tired, let’s rest a little. |
Ara vermek To take a break | Ders çalışmaya ara verdim. I took a break from studying. |
Öğrenmek To learn | Araba sürmeyi öğrendim. I learned how to drive. |
Öğretmek To teach | Sana resim çizmeyi öğreteyim mi? Shall I teach you how to draw? |
Hareket etmek To move | Araba kendi kendine hareket ediyor! Your car is moving on its own! |
Koşmak To run | Oğlan kıza doğru koştu. The boy ran towards the girl. |
Yürümek To walk | Her gün 2 kilometre yürürüm. I walk 2 kilometres every day. |
Durmak To stop | Motosiklet kırmızı ışıkta durdu. The motorbike stopped at the red light. |
Girmek To enter | Görevliler haricinde kimse giremez. No one except employees can enter. |
Çıkmak To exit | Labirentten çıkmak için sağ dön. Turn right to exit the labyrinth. |
